Spencity, also known as “Spen'' is an artist and an entrepreneur from Flora, Mississippi, now residing in Chicago, Illinois. Driven, passionate, and real, he is on the right path toward success and making his dreams a reality. Spencity stays on the scene with major collaborations and behind the scene presence with upcoming artists. Spencity has all around talent that has followed him for years. Becoming more serious, being motivated to his work, Spencity is on a mission to make it to the top.
“Creatively I’m working on creating a completely new sound. Something that blends traditional soul and gospel sounds with today's trap and drill scenes. If I bring what I hear in my head to life, it could become a completely new genre of music.” The Spen is well-rounded artist and collaborator who refuses to give up even when things don't go as planned. His inspiration has levels, and his music has always been there as a driving force in his life and his team and himself are on the come up. “Currently I have a project in the works with Houston’s own Bone The Mack. Also, a project with billboard charting producer Trakman Sparkz out of Cincinnati. As well as other projects both rap and R&B with some really dope artist from St Louis and Ohio like the Zamm2Turnt and Jacene_Muziq.”

I am from the outside small town in Flora, Mississippi.
As a business owner, what are some struggles you have had to overcome?
As a business owner, I struggle with changing operating costs, fatigue, and sometimes fail to make profit. But sometimes that alone can’t be the deciding factor. Belief in self and a good product is.
How have you overcome struggles to be where you are now?
I’ve been poor, hungry, angry, depressed, and locked up. Among a host of other adjectives to describe what we’re all facing everyday. For me personally. I’ve always known that I couldn’t quit. My granddad didn’t raise us to quit, but to figure it out.
Who are the most influential people in your life?
The most influential people in my life would have to be my brother. Great dad, great friend, great spirit. No matter the situation he’s always been there. Definitely a role model and someone I’ve always had and always will look up to. Musically it’s definitely people like UGK and D’Angelo. A lot of 80’s and 90’s R&B. The temptations, there’s just so many.
Even though Spencity is devoted to perfecting the art of his music to the highest level, his hardships have made him want to do even better in his business. His projects are staying aligned with his mission in making it to the top in music. “From all of my work, not just the music, I want people to see love. So often nowadays we forget to genuinely love one another. So yea let’s have fun, let’s turn up, let’s be real. But let’s also love each other again.”
Despite issues that are faced in the industry, Spencity never let go of his vision. Spencity has a goal to make people want to see more of him, which he has already been proving. Putting in the hours of work, commitment, and inspiration both in front of and behind the scenes in the year 2022, he makes a difference in the music business.
“All my life I’ve been told to follow a pretty laid out path that everyone in my community followed. Which was ya know, be happy for the little that you do have. And I was but at the same time I knew I wanted more. Was capable of more. And now that I’m a dad, I want my daughter to have every opportunity to chase her dreams and goals no matter how unreachable they seem. So her seeing me do it and lead by example is what’s inspiring me everyday to continue to build this brand.”
