Sarthak Rocky Sahoo, also known as ‘Rocky’ is a fine musician artist and creative from Dallas, Texas. In the music business, Rocky has set his eyes on the top, and is determined to reach there. Experimental, attentive, and passionate, Rocky, has a strong goal: he wants to stay committed to his work while building a legacy.
“I am an up and coming house/edm producer, dj, and visual artist creating surrealist landscapes of pen and ink in a collage style to reflect emotional-driven visions and dreamscapes. I am a lifelong fine artist and illustrator. I create edm music and currently have 3 albums on Spotify. I have songs that combine both western and South Asian/Hindustani/Bollywood influence and I am working to drop a DJ mix this year.”
Although failure is common while traveling far from home, Rocky, a successful artist who doesn't give up easily, isn't one to do that. He treats his working relationships seriously. His aspiration is to keep moving ahead and use his music to make a positive difference. He describes the struggles he has faced after his performance on the stages.
“I tend to be all over the place where I seek inspiration from. I like going on Spotify, building playlists with its recommendations, and seeing where I’m taken as a listener while creating my art. Since I'm both an illustrator and a musician, I take what I make as a vision of what I can create in music. I let my vision guide my sound. As of right now, watching DJ sets, particularly house, and observing every detail of how they engage audiences while having a very persistent craft helps me engage in a creative zen”. Rocky makes an impact in the industry.
Where are you from?
I was born and brought up in Oklahoma, then moved to Allen, TX later for the later half of my childhood. I earned my BFA in communication design with a concentration in UX Design from University of North Texas, and now reside in Dallas.
How have you overcome struggles to be where you are at now?
In high school obesity, depression, anxiety and aspergers were some of the problems I faced that kept my confidence low and my insecurities high. In college, I started a workout regimen that made me feeling healthier and cleaner, allowing my artwork and craft to flow more fluidly. Doing it for my health and feeling physically free helped me mentally.
As a business owner, what are some obstacles you have had to overcome to get where you are at?
Working with partners who don’t reciprocate effort, maintaining enough capital for large-scale investments, marketing and brand strategy as well as general outreach.
The Dallas-based artist Rocky is becoming more well-known. Rocky the artist never gives up and is quite clear about his aims and ambitions. “I want people to understand that what people are ashamed of, traumas they have experienced, emotions they hold back and experiences regardless of how people perceive them will always have a space in art. Art allows us to connect emotionally and tell stories that we may not feel comfortable expressing in person yet, but that space will always exist for it to be told. Art is a space where we can communicate our identities and tell people who we are.”
His goal is to keep moving ahead and to create something meaningful with his music. Rocky makes a difference in the music industry by putting in the hours of effort, enthusiasm, and motivation.
Rocky continued by saying that his love of music would always be his motivation in life and that influential people in his life had a big impact on his career. He claims that his drive and motivation are what have brought him to where he is now. Rocky sees himself as an ambitious artist who, because of his perseverance and work ethic, has more recently inspired and motivated others.
“I am constantly inspired by Kaytranada, Fred again and my creative friends on a daily basis. My friends and family push me to explore new opportunities and I can trust them for anything. Kaytranada is a Haitian DJ and beatmaker with a sound that’s combined both hip hop and house elements into its own form, I take a lot of inspiration from that.” Others look up to him.
The emphasis of Rocky’s concentration is now on continuing to pursue his musical profession in order to build his already strong foundation even further than it is already. Rocky has his sights set on the prize and realizes that in order to be successful, one must not only invest in oneself, but also in those who will invest in you in exchange for their efforts on his behalf.
