Gena Tinsley, also known as ‘GenaTheMagician’, is a creative entrepreneur, model, and singer. From a small city called Gilroy, California, now residing in Dallas, Texas. Gena keeps her online presence known all around. Known as creative, resilient and passionate in the efforts that have been led throughout her life, Gena is just an overall talented artist that is constantly making moves.
She has had numerous projects that have caught the eye of others. She remains consistent on her projects through her marketing, and is always having new ideas with her work. Gena explains her current projects. “I have a few creative projects happening currently! My main focus right now is my debut song. I’m developing some new SilentWatersBeautyCo hair and skin care collections, I’m working on some music and various projects with artists and photographers. Gena is now putting in a lot of effort to display her skills, and is paving the way with her hard work. Gena speaks on some of her motivations at the moment. “I am inspired daily by my children and their futures as well as mine. I have three mini artists right now and cultivating their gifts has sparked a light for my own. Now I am picking up where I left off. It’s been an amazing journey so far and I’m doing things I never thought I would be doing before this all started because of the inspiration they bring to me daily.” Her goals and the reasons she pursues them set her up for success in all she undertakes and she does not stop.
Where are you from?
I’m from a small city in California called Gilroy. It’s about fifteen minutes away from San Jose. I came to Dallas when I was eleven and pretty much grew up out here up until I was in high school. I grew up in Pleasant Grove, I graduated from Samuell High School. It’s been my home away from home.
Give Three Qualities that describe you:
The 3 qualities I feel describe me are resilient, creative, and passionate. I use those words to describe me because of all that I’ve learned and accomplished within my almost 30 years of life. I’ve had three children and survived a very abusive relationship. I started my business SilentWatersBeautyCo LLC in 2021 and I’ve been consistently building ever since, I’ve also started my modeling and singing careers recently and I’ve had so many opportunities come to me since. I have turned my life around and that's why I'm so passionate about everything I set out to achieve. Nine times out of ten, I’ve already seen it happen, and it’s my responsibility to make it my reality.
How have you overcome struggles to be where you are now?
I believe the word “struggle” brings so much negativity to the journey. We’ve all experienced obstacles especially when it’s on a path that hasn't been paved before you. As a single mother and entrepreneur I’ve experienced many obstacles but my main focus has always been seeing my goal ultimately accomplished no matter what. I have even trained myself to believe that if an obstacle is met, it’s because the problem is currently being solved and I depend on my intuitive gifts to figure out how.
As a business owner, what are some obstacles you have had to overcome to get where you are at?
I’ve experienced physical obstacles, mental obstacles, and spiritual obstacles. It is what comes with owning your own business, and even more, developing a life of independence and abundance. I believe once you embark on a journey of this magnitude and actually walking in your purpose it brings so many lessons it can be overwhelming at times. I heard a quote a while ago that really stuck with me overtime. ‘Life is about the journey, not the destination.’ We all have those life changing come ups but what about what happened before that that got you there? Basically what I’m saying is that I had to change my perspective on what obstacles and challenges meant to me in order to make my experience better and it works!
Not only is Gena an experienced artist, but she is also an artist who has a great deal of knowledge. She hopes that with the force of her work, she will be able to have a positive influence on the world and attain greater levels of success in her career. Gena puts in hours of hard work and makes it a commitment to find inspiration in everything around her.
She concludes the interview by giving a piece of advice that she wants others to take back from her overall work. “One of my many pieces of advice I give to my peers is to stay true to yourself on this journey no matter what. One of the oaths I made to myself is that I wouldn’t sell myself out for anything. My main intention has always been to keep my authenticity front and center. What you see is what you get and I keep it with me daily because in this current world there’s so many pretenders and wolves in sheep's clothing. Stay true to you (whoever that may be) because it’s needed. That’s how you’ll get far.” As a necessary result of the effort she has put in, she will be in a position to strengthen the foundation that she has already established by building the additional elements on top of it and expanding the scope of those elements. Gena will be successful in achieving her goal because she never gives up. She will only see success in the days to come.
“The most influential people in my life were definitely the women in my family like my mother, my Auntie Tina and my Auntie Asha, my Momo. They’re Trail Blazers in their own right even till this day. My mom has always been my number one support throughout my life. I am so grateful to have all of them because they cater to me in their own way so that I become my best self in this life.”
