Rapper, Wesley Small, also known as ‘OneTakeWes’ stays devoted and has worked hard on his craft for many years. From the South Haven, Michigan area, with ties in Kalamazoo, he has a lot of stuff coming up. With great knowledge, and experience in his field, he remains more serious and dedicated to his work, and focused with each endeavor. A goal for OneTakeWes has always been to keep grinding. “Currently, I am working on a lot of rap music. Very soon, I will be making a big expansion. As much as I love rap music, there are so many other genres that I want to experiment with to take my sound to the next level.” OneTakeWes is a well-rounded person who refuses to give up even when things don't go as planned. He wants to keep moving forward and use his work to do good things. “A music video is in the works right now. I just came out with an album in October and it is a very important project to me. This spring I am also releasing two new EP’s, so make sure to stay updated on my socials.”
A thinker, charismatic, and introspective, OneTakeWes understands the importance of being faithful and steadfast on his journey and remains successful through his endeavors. Despite the ups and downs that life brings naturally, OneTakeWes remains focused and honed on his craft. His personal connections have pushed him to be where he is at, and he continues to leave his mark amongst his clients and interactions. “I have overcome struggles with patience, practice, and organization. I let myself get organized and I get to work. When I hit a creative roadblock it is usually because my mind is on something else and there’s just other things that need to be done. Once that is out of the way, I have more room for creativity.”
As an up and coming artist, OneTakeWes is currently concentrating on expanding upon his already solid base and making it even stronger. Successful individuals make investments in themselves as well as diversity in others who will assist them on their path to success. And OneTakeWes is aware of this. “I am being inspired by other local artists in Kalamazoo. Working with other artists has been what really drives me to break down limiting ideas and get out of my comfort zone.”
Who were the most influential people in your life?
I think some of the most influential people in my life have been the friends I make music with. Other than my family, who instilled so many great habits and ideals in me at an early age, my bandmates are the ones that really pushed me to keep making music. When I recorded my first song, I hated it and didn’t want to keep trying. If it weren’t for my friends to tell me to keep going, I wouldn’t be where I am now.
OneTakeWes’s goal is to make people want to see more of him, which he has done already in the community that he works, and on social media. By putting in the hours of work, commitment, and inspiration both in front of and behind the scenes in the year 2023, he makes a difference in the personal training business and the community. OneTakeWes shares some advice with the readers. “It is hard for me to give advice, since I am still trying to take as much as possible, myself. For me, I would say, don’t release any work that you are not proud of.”
Even though OneTakeWes is devoted to perfecting the art of his business to the highest level, his hardships have made him want to do even better in his business as well. “Having a steady flow of income that can pay for you to be creative. As long as I can afford studio time, new music equipment, and basic necessities, I don’t need anything else. As long as I can make the art that I need to, I know that things will be fine.”
