ZITA BARBARA BRINGS BUTTERFLIES TO NEW YORK FASHION WEEK

During the month of September Monarch Butterflies are normally making their annual migration to Mexico. This year, we spotted a number of them in New York Fashion Week inside of designer Zita Barbara's Spring/Summer collection. The designs were inspired by two books she wrote and are available on Amazon by searching her author's name (Z.B. Sanders) alongside the title of the books.

"The Little Blue Worm," is a children's book with an anti-bullying message. This book inspired the butterflies inside of the show. Most designs resembled giant butterfly wings. The mirrors used to detail the wings are inspired by a book she wrote on the topic of art, "Hands." In which the mirror imagery has significant meaning.

The idea of the show was to create a collection and art display. Zita Barbara encourages audience members to purchase the books in order to greater appreciate the consideration she put towards details like the music. Zita Barbara wrote and sung the songs in the show herself, as well as incorporated imagery into her fashion to highlight certain lyrics. These elements combined create a unique fashion show experience.
