Deyana Janae, also known as ‘De’ is a performer , aspiring producer, and music major at the University of North Texas. From the Hust, Texas area now residing in Denton, Deyana, is an up and coming artist that has made some noise and is continuing to soar to the top. She is a driven,passionate, and a unique person. She has a natural ability to connect with her audience and supporters. Deyana is dedicated to making the finest music she can, no matter where she is. “I'm all over the place when it comes to my creative adventures. At the moment I am working on putting out my first EP titled S.O.L (Stages of Love). I am also working on auditioning for shows and setting up gigs to start building a name for myself in the DFW area. Outside of the music I'm working on building a team with my MUA/Creative Director, Taylor Simone. We help each other make content for our business outlets and social media presence. When I'm not focusing on my music career I am focusing on my studies at UNT. On the off chance I have any free time to do anything else, I pick up random side tasks to try and learn, whether that be making arts and crafts, learning how to do different hairstyles, educating myself on random things that I ponder throughout the day, or learning how to play an instrument. I'm about to learn how to play guitar.”
Deyana is relentless in her pursuit of excellence; she refuses to settle for anything less than the best. Deyana has said that she would always be motivated by her enthusiasm while keeping a strong work ethic. The people in her life have a significant impact on her and continue to motivate her. “My family, My early voice lesson teacher's Mrs.Miyake and Mrs. Claudia Melton, and my closest friends were the most influential people in my everyday life. Musically, Beyonce, Michael Jackson, Lauryn Hill, India Arie, Erykah Badu, Whitney Houston, and my grandma are my influences.” Deyana is spiritually aligned with her inner self and creativity. An authentic version of herself, and very goal-oriented.. She feels her efforts will change the world and help her succeed professionally because she gives it her all always.
What is inspiring you right now consistently to work on your endeavors?
My dreams, my determination to live an adventurous life with no regrets, and the need to prove myself wrong. I grew up being silenced. I grew up very shy and soft-spoken. I was deeply insecure with who I was as a person. In the past that kept me from doing things that I wanted to do. Despite my very big and Extroverted dreams, I had a voice in my head telling me I couldn't do something because I wasn't cool enough, pretty enough, smart enough, talented enough, driven enough. As I kept missing opportunities and watched other people live out my dreams I decided I wasn't going to let that nagging voice in my head stop me from living the best version of my life. I want to look back on my life in 60 years and think "Yeah, that was fun and fulfilling" instead of "I wish I had done this or tired this and that..."
How have you overcome struggles to be where you are now?
I've been through a lot. Not as much as other people but enough to make my spirit be drug down to the deepest parts of despair. Despite the hardships, one thing I have been telling myself since I was forced to run 3 miles nonstop in junior high athletics, is that "It's only bad now, it won't be later". This means whatever stressor I'm going through will soon pass and I will be led to the better side of things. I will finish this mile, eventually. I'm able to push through anything trusting that God will pull me through.
What do you have coming up right now that you want others to know about?
As I stated before I have been working diligently on dropping my EP S.O.L. I'm a Libra, I love Cheesy, romantic, cringey love. I crave it in a generation filled with emotionally unavailable people. My EP is a journey through my emotions and thoughts during each stage of a romantic relationship. Each song represents different phases like; the honeymoon phase, the fighting stage, the breakup, the single life phase, and ending with reconciliation. Each song is the embodiment of my heart. It's authentically me as the rose-colored glasses start to lift its veil of naivety, leading to the ultimate end of something that was in my eyes, the most beautiful love story. This EP is dedicated to hopeless romantics.
Due to Deyana's established standing within the music business, her body of work continues to expand. The influence of this has been seen throughout her whole career, as she has shown her organizational skills and collaborative abilities via active involvement in a multitude of diverse initiatives. Deyana is a diligent musician who exhibits strong work ethic and has promising prospects for her future career. Despite the unpredictable nature of real-world circumstances, Deyana consistently demonstrates unwavering perseverance. “Mentally I had to overcome my anxiety and depression. The fear of rejection and not being accepted for who I am as an artist. Outwardly I had to overcome not having the proper resources or knowledge to properly get the music that I hear in my head out into the world... Luckily, I am a creative problem solver. I learned how to mix on my own, asked others for advice, played around with my software, and created my own home studio. I mentioned in a previous question that I grew up shy so talking to people is not easy for me but I am still working through that social anxiety and putting myself out more. All these obstacles have made me the person I am today.”
Deyana is ambitious and committed to achieving her objectives. Deyana is not only a competent industry leader, but also a woke individual. She believes that the influence of her work will allow her to achieve greater professional achievement and have a positive impact on the world. Deyana vows to draw inspiration from all of her experiences and works diligently. As she concludes, she provides the readers with a piece of inspiration to carry with them. “Simply, to keep moving forward. Sometimes it seems everyone around you is on a level that you want to be on. You have to understand that everyone is on their journey. Instead of being bitter and jealous that someone is on the level that you want to be on, take their achievements as inspiration and use motivation to meet them on that hill no matter how long it takes. It's easier on your spirit to show love than to hate.”
